In Unit A, students focus on asking thoughtful questions and making predictions while reading. They build foundational writing skills by learning how to craft clear sentences and organized expository paragraphs. Grammar instruction emphasizes parts of speech, types of sentences, conjunctions, and adverbs to help students express their ideas clearly and cohesively.

Unit B centres on making personal and text-based connections during reading. Students write narrative stories with a clear problem and solution, developing emotional resonance and character development. Grammar lessons support this by covering pronouns, descriptive language, sentence variety, and proper punctuation and capitalization.

In Unit C, students practise determining the most important information in a text and identifying key ideas. They learn to brainstorm and organize their ideas using graphic organizers to support informative writing. Grammar instruction focuses on punctuation, sentence expansion, transition use, and logical sentence flow.

Unit D supports students in evaluating messages, perspectives, and arguments in texts. They apply this critical thinking to persuasive writing, learning to structure arguments with evidence. Grammar instruction includes relative pronouns, possessive forms, persuasive language features, and strategies for writing with sentence variety and clarity.

This unit emphasizes making inferences and reading between the lines to understand deeper meanings. In writing, students continue developing narrative texts with stronger structure, character detail, and emotional depth. Grammar instruction includes linking verbs, verb tenses, subject-verb agreement, and combining sentences for fluency.

Unit F focuses on understanding how texts are organized, particularly procedural and sequential formats. Students write procedural texts that include clear steps and logical structure. Grammar instruction refines sentence clarity and structure through work on modifiers, active and passive voice, and parallelism.

Throughout the year, we have included weeks focused on seasonal themes such as Truth and Reconciliation, Remembrance Day, Valentine's Day, Earth Day, and Holidays Around the World. In addition, we also have special extension units such as a Book Project and Poetry lessons.

This is a junior literacy program.

First and foremost it follows the curriculum expectations. It currently aligns with the most of the expectations from Ontario 2023 and new lessons will be added or revised to reflect some changes in spelling, grammar and cursive writing. It also matches the current curriculums from other provinces across Canada. This is our primary objective when creating resources.

However, Ignited Literacy is not a early reading program. It is also not designed to support/supplement students with lagging skills below a grade 3 level. It is designed to support students in grades 3-6 and presumes these are students who are reading at a grade 3 reading level and beyond.

Ignited Literacy supports learning skills and strategies that are necessary from this point in the elementary years. The focus is on word identification, vocabulary, comprehension and fluency. This means that we spend time every week learning about different grammar structures, spelling patterns, build vocabulary through high quality picture books, linked non fiction texts, and relevant guided reading texts. All learning is done in context and not in isolation so that students are not just memorizing words but building connections within and between ideas.

There are a lot of language programs out there—but most leave you doing the hard work of figuring out how it all fits together. Ignited Literacy 2.0 is different.

2) You have been provided access to the Ignited Teaching library but have not yet logged in to the program library. Once access has been granted, refunds will not be offered based on your personal choice not to access the resources.
